Shane Fitzgibbon has been a driving force in the spread of Taekwon-do throughout the West of Ireland. After opening the first School in Galway in 1993, that seed school has now seen schools spread through Loughrea, Ballinderreen, Gort and even Athlone, all opened by students of Shane.
The Korean martial art of Taekwon-do is spreading rapidly around the world. It is known for its dynamic style of acrobatic and powerful kicking techniques, balanced by the founder’s desire to “create a more peaceful World”.
Holder of a 6th degree black belt, Mr. Fitzgibbon was the longest-serving captain of the Irish team and has won eighteen World medals in the twelve-year period 2000-2012. He is a 6-time World Champion in ITF Taekwon-do and WKU Kickboxing.
As an instructor, Mr. Fitzgibbon has coached numerous, Irish, British, European and World Champions. Of course, competition is only a small part of Taekwon-do, and for most students the motivation to train is a desire to learn self-defence, increase physical fitness and challenge oneself to reach new goals. Having brought hundreds of students to black belt level, Mr. Fitzgibbon understands how to get the most from his students.
