Just like a soccer coach specialises in soccer, and a basketball coach specialises in coaching basketball, or any other example you can think of, a Strength and Conditioning coach specialises in getting individuals and teams in the best physical condition possible for their season. The purpose is to enhance performance and minimise injury risk. This involves:
- Determining the physical requirements of the sport in question.
- Determining the individual fitness qualities required of each player
- Testing each player to determine baseline fitness levels
- Writing a programme to develop all required fitness qualities required, e.g. speed endurance, power, jumping ability, multi-directional speed, etc…
